The Boys and Girls Clubs of the East Valley has lost one of its shining, bright lights. Anthony Ochoa Junior, Branch Executive for the organization’s Gila River Branch in Sacaton, died Saturday, August 4, 2007 at the age of 27. Ochoa had worked in the Boys & Girls Club movement for more than seven years. The last five years were dedicated to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley. “Anthony impacted a lot of young people in Sacaton and he will be missed dearly” said Ramon Elias, president and CEO of the Boys and Girls Clubs of the East Valley. “When you ask the kids from Sacaton why they go to the Boys & Girls Club, they’ll tell you it was because of Anthony.”
Raised in Coolidge, Ochoa began his Boys & Girls Clubs career as a Gym Instructor for the Boys & Girls Club of Casa Grande in 2000. From that point on, Ochoa touched the lives of many “club kids” in Casa Grande, Sedalia, Missouri and finally in the Gila River Indian Community. Ochoa was the chairman for the State Keystone Conference and his achievements were recognized by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Ochoa leaves behind a six year old son, his mother, father and three sisters. A memorial will be held at the Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley Gila River Branch- Sacaton on Thursday, August 9, 2007 at 6:00 pm. Donations for the Ochoa Family’s funeral expenses can be made payable to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley- Anthony Ochoa Jr. Fund.
