Favorite programs at the Club include:
Youth Basketball – The Youth Basketball Program brings in 60-80 youth ages 6 to 14. It is a 3- month season in which the participants play games at least once a week against other Boys and Girls Clubs and recreation departments in the East Valley. An awards banquet closes out the season.
Arts & Crafts – Our Arts & Crafts program allows our members to showcase their creativity as well as their culture. Our instructor Carol French does an amazing job at tying the Pima traditions and culture into all her projects during each season. Youth also participate in the Fine Arts Program offered through the state annually.
Sunshine Mentoring Program – At the Club we look for youth that need a little more guidance and pair them up with a mentor. The mentors and mentees meet once a week for an hour at the Club. They enjoy talking, activities in the gym or even cooking in the kitchen. Mentors benefit from this program by giving back to the youth and community, and the mentees benefit from having one more person in their life who will serve as a positive role model.
Intel Computer Clubhouse – Here at the Sacaton Branch we are proud to be one of only six Boys and Girls Clubs in the state to host the Intel Computer Clubhouse. The Computer Clubhouse provides a creative and safe after-school learning environment where young people explore their own ideas, develop skills, and build confidence through the use of technology. The Clubhouse itself has a music room where youth can create and record their own songs as well as make CDs or they can even create their own short movies.
Cooking Class – Every Friday we offer a cooking class for our youth where they learn how to properly wash and sanitize their hands and the dishes they are going to use; learn basic kitchen etiquette; and how to prepare a simple meal. The Club’s staff members take turns teaching the youth how to make a meal that is culturally familiar to that staff. The cooking class also provides the youth with the opportunity to learn how to make traditional Pima entrees such as fry bread, squash and beans.
Homework Help / Power Hour:
Every Club member at our Branch participates in Power Hour. As Club members enter the building, kids come in and get their homework done right away. We will commit time, space and staff to Club members for as long as they have homework to do.
